When I pressed #BAEKHYUN #BAMBI ’s music video, I was lost for words. I am not exaggerating nor being dramatic BUT if you watched the opening scene, just WOW!
The opening scene reminded me of that ‘Black & White’ film, almost ‘Art-House’ type, comparable with ‘Noir’ concept back in the days, if you know or have watched some mafia movies.
In this kind of concept, usually it holds this “strong” character, to which is our Baekhyun here smoking with his back leaning on a train station track wall and some series of “mysterious events” as seen with those black and white scene giving of some ”rendezvous” vibe with someone, that “gangster”, those suits, fedora, dress shoes and those leather hand gloves, very classic of a mafia or noir or gatsby themed event.
What about those “train” scenes? We almost always get that scene with some of our old movies where in back in the mid-19th century, citizens travel via train or what we call railway cars or the “train coaches”. Spacious and elaborate carriage, which has a part of where Baekhyun dances, are for the wealthy, which can describe Baekhyun here looking so fine and sexy.
All points are so cinematic for me, most especially him hanging / holding on the train’s railing while it speeds away with that downpour of ”NIGHT RAIN” is so satisfying to see. Like a true mafia plotting his great escape that he climbs up the train’s roof as you see the frustations in his face as he faces up and welcomes the night rain.
Dancing part in the middle of the tracks and empty streets can never NOT BE gatsby / noir type. The mysteriousness of the fog.
For me, this is another level of MV from SM and for Baekhyun as a soloist. They took an extra mile for this and it is so satisfying to watch, it‘s catchy, and it match perfectly with Baekhyun and his song ‘Bambi’.
Nothing less from a seasoned artist and performer Baekhyun of #EXO.
